"Full
Deck" Exhibition Records |
|
| In
1992, quilt artist Sue Pierce had a good idea for an exhibition. She asked
54 art quilters each to pick a playing card and interpret that card in quilt
form, using a standard size and thickness. The result was a theme exhibition,
"Full Deck Art Quilts," that conveyed the expressive possibilities
and vitality of American art quilts. The exhibition, which premiered in
1995 at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, was
circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES).
Pierce recently donated to the Archives of American Art her complete records
of the exhibition, including files on the participating artists, which contain
correspondence and notes about their creative process, as well as press
clippings and other printed material. |
