Rudio Autio Interview Excerpt (3:33 min:sec)

RUDY AUTIO (b. 1925) is a founding resident artist at the Archie Bray Ceramics Foundation in Helena, Montana. He is also Professor Emeritus of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Montana in Missoula. In this excerpt from a 1983 interview conducted by LaMar Harrington, Autio recalls watching Japanese potter Shoji Hamada working on the wheel during Hamada's tour of the United States in 1952. He also compares his friend Peter Voulkos to British potter Bernard Leach and comments on Voulkos's dramatic transformation after his return from studying at Black Mountain College.
