  • [Philip Evergood, Oxford, Connecticut note to Lawrence Arthur Fleischman, Detroit, Mich.]

Recent Acquisitions: Selections from the papers of Lawrence and Barbara Fleischman

Archives of American Art's New York Research Center
    June 22 - September 30, 2007

On the occasion of John W. Smith's appointment as director of the Archives of American Art, Barbara G. Fleischman, chairman of the Board of Trustees, donated to the Archives an extraordinary collection of letters from artists, curators and critics. These letters to Barbara and her late husband Lawrence A. Fleischman, a founder of the Archives of American Art, show their support of artists and their intellectual engagement in the fledgling field of American art. This gift, among many others, demonstrates their deep commitment to advancing American art history.
