Albert Bierstadt Letters, 1880-1893
This site provides access to the letters of Albert Bierstadt in the Archives of American Art that were digitized in 2008. The letters have been scanned in their entirety and total 30 images.
The collection comprises 13 letters dated 1860-1900, and provides scattered documentation of the life and career of renowned Hudson River School landscape painter, Albert Bierstadt. Subjects covered in the letters include Bierstadt's painting, the inspiration he found in nature, his studio, and concerns relating to commissions and finances. All of the letters were written by Bierstadt and the majority were penned in the last two decades of his life. Read more About this Collection.
