Collection Summary: Business and editorial correspondence of theARTgallery Magazine, Nov. 1957 - Jan. 1983, and related printed matter; auction and exhibition catalogs; and photographs of works of art and architectural subjects reproduced in the magazine.
Included are a complete run of theARTgallery Magazine vols. I - XXIV (1957-1980), published as theARTgallery until 1966; the separate publications listing exhibitions, known under three different titles: theARTgallery Guide (Mar. 1972-Nov.1973 and Oct.1976-Oct. 1977), theARTgallery Scene (Dec.1973-Summer 1976 and Oct.1979 through Jan. 1983), and theARTgallery Exhibition Guide (Oct.1977-June 1979). The magazine contains national exhibition calendars, feature articles, and commentaries; mini-multiples were commissioned by, and included within editions of theARTgallery Magazine on thirteen occasions.
Biographical/Historical Note: The publication began as a national exhibition calendar, and eventually expanded to include commentaries, feature articles, illustrated covers in full color, and mini-multiples commissioned by the magazine between 1969 and 1975.
The complete run of the magazine and related publications were donated 1993 by William C. Bendig, editor and publisher, with funding provided by the Kuwait Information Office, 1993. Bendig donated the magazine's records in 1996.
