Collection Summary: Project and subject files, biographical material, photographs, printed material and a package.

A majority of the collection consists of Antonakos' project and subject files arranged by year, and document Antonakos' Package Projects, exhibitions, commissioned installations, and individual art objects and contain catalogs, drawings, letters, writings, photographs, and assorted printed material. Biographical material includes bibliographies, and artists' statements. Photographs are of Antonakos and works of art. Printed mateial includes posters by Antonakos for various exhibitions and projects, books, and group show catalogs that contain extended entries about Antonakos.

The package, which remained unopened until after Antonakos' death, was a wrapped box containing a note and 35 mm microfilm of a sketchbook kept by Antonakos relating to his neon projects.

Biographical/Historical Note: Stephen Antonakos (1926-2013) was a sculptor from New York, New York. Antonokas specialized in incorporating neon into his works. He also created Package Projects that consisted of sending wrapped packages to friends and colleagues that were not to be opened or were to be opened at a specified time.

Donated 1975 and 1981 by Stephen B. Antonakos and in 2014 by Naomi Antonakos, Stephen Antonakos' widow.
