Biographical/Historical Note: Arts club; New York, N.Y. A group of artists and writers who met informally in members' homes, 1820-1869. Many members played a significant role in the development of the National Academy of Design. The group was also known as the XXI, in honor of the 21 original founding members.

Loaned 1966 by the Century Club, a New York City arts club whose membership overlapped with the Sketch Club.
