Biographical/Historical Note: Portrait painter; Washington, D.C. Born in Boston, Massachusetts. Hinckley studied art in Paris with Carolus-Duran and Bonnat from 1864 to 1884, graduating from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Establishing a studio in Washington, D.C. in 1884, he painted portraits of eminent Americans. Hinckley also instructed the portrait class at the Corcoran Art School for six years.
The donor, Michael Tierney, purchased the photograph.
