Included are correspondence about Leighton and his paintings; card files and research notes on Leighton's paintings; a biographical sketch written by Bain; photocopies of articles about Leighton; exhibition catalogs; a research file on artist Delbert Dana Coombs; and photographs and negatives of Leighton's works, his grave, and home.

Biographical/Historical Note: Sherwood Bain is a stockbroker and amateur art historian residing in Boston. Scott Leighton (full name Nicholas Winfield Leighton) was an animal painter who first worked in Portland, Maine, and periodically worked with Currier & Ives after his move to Boston in 1875.
