U. S. General Services Administration, Design Excellence and Arts Oral History Project

August 2008–August 2010

In August 2008, with the support of the U. S. General Services Administration, Design Excellence and Arts Programs, the Archives of American Art began a focused oral history initiative to interview twenty artists who have produced major works of art for the Art in Architecture Program of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). GSA collaborated on the selection of interviewees, made the initial contacts, and provided the necessary funds for the duplication, transcribing, editing, cataloging, and digital preservation of the interviews.

The Archives produced twenty new oral history interviews. While these interviews are broadly autobiographical, each one includes a discussion of works of art created by the artist for the Fine Arts or Art in Architecture Program.
