Collection Summary: Business files, letters, photographs and printed material relating to the the 1913 Armory Show, 50th Anniversary exhibition sponsored by the Henry Street Settlement, of which Margaret Carlton was co-chair. Business files relate to committees, contributions, publicity, and guests. Photographs are of the event and many come from the album "Armory Show 1963."
Letters to Carlton, found in two scrapbooks, are from Charles Collingwood, Leon Kroll, Henri Marceau, V.W. Van Gogh, and Adelaide Taylor. Printed material includes two posters (one signed and numbered by Marcel Duchamp) and exhibition catalogs signed by Duchamp, Stuart Davis, William Zorach, and others.
Biographical/Historical Note: Margaret Carlton was an exhibition organizer in Woods Hole, Mass.
Donated 1995 by Margaret Gillies Carlton and 2009 by Mary, Ann and Rhona Carlton, daughters of Margaret Gillies Carlton via Jenn Swope, an in-law of the Carlton family.
