An interview of William A. Gaw conducted by Lewis Ferbraché for the Archives of American Art, March 6, 1964. Gaw speaks of his art training under James Martin Griffin; attending the Mark Hopkins Institute; his work as a commercial artist, an engineer, and a designer; early exhibitions of his work; working with the WPA-FAP; teaching at Mills College; exhibitions he has juried; and California artists he has associated with. He recalls Fernand Leger, Reginald Marsh, David Park, Worth Ryder, and Clyfford Still.
This interview conducted as part of the Archives of American Art's New Deal and the Arts project, which includes over 400 interviews of artists, administrators, historians, and others involved with the federal government's art programs and the activities of the Farm Security Administration in the 1930s and early 1940s.
