Collection Summary: Two copy prints of the artist Maurice Sievan (1898-1981) taken by his wife, the photographer Lee Sievan (1907-1990) in 1946 and 1980.
Biographical/Historical Note: Maurice Sieven was an abstract painter of the New York School, which also included Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still.
Donated by Avis Berman, 1999, a writer and art historian who received the photos as part of a press kit related to the exhibition "Creative Lives: New York Paintings and Photographs by Maurice and Lee Sievan," held at the Museum of the City of New York, 1997.
