Biographical/Historical Note
Józef Bakós (1891-1977) was a painter in Sante Fe, New Mexico. He is best known for his Western landscapes. Bakós was a founding member of the Modernist art group Los Cinco Pintores (the five painters) with Walter Mruk, Fremont Ellis, Willard Nash, and Will Shuster. He married Teresa Bakós in 1927. Teresa Bakós (1884-1974) was an Italian-born painter in Santa Fe.
Provenance
The lender, Norman Bakos, is Jozef's nephew, and executor of his estate.
