Longacre (July 10, 1838); John B. White (Mar. 10, 1839 and Apr. 1844); George Catlin (c. 1839 and Nov. 24, 1839); Ferdinand Pettrich (Jan. 6, 1840); and John G. Chapman (Feb. 4, 1841). Also included are a letter to Pettrich from P. O'Neill (Jan. 1, 1840), and from Herring to James Lawrenson (Jan. 27, 1839).

Biographical/Historical Note: American agent to Latin America and Secretary of War in the Van Buren administration.
