Photograph of thirteen painters and sculptors of an artists sketch club opened to Americans residing in Rome, Italy. Among the artists pictured are George A. Baker, William B. Chambers, James E. Freeman, Daniel Huntington, Louis Lang, Emanuel Leutze, George Champlain Mason, W.H. (William Henry) Powell, Thomas Prichard Rossiter, and Luther Terry.
Identification on verso (handwritten): Sketch Club of American Artists at Rome during the winter of 1844 & 5 taken April 26, 1845 by Sig. Perraud for E. Leutz, D. Huntington, L. Terry, L. Lang, J. E. Freeman, W.B. Chambers, W.H. Powell, Bujac, Mason, Baker (Stephen), Baker, McClugh, T.P. Rossiter [?]; members absent; H.K. Brown, sick; Wm. Hunt, gone to Greece.
Photograph is badly damaged.

Donated 2001 by Oliver Chanler, a great-great grandson of one of the artists pictured in the photograph, Luther Terry.
