Description: List covers nine handwritten pages of names and telegram draft is one typewritten page. The typewritten page has a heading: Suggested draft of telegram of invitation to be sent by Mr. Kennedy to the attached list of Americans in the arts, letters and sciences.
The telegram expresses the new administration's wish to form a "productive relationship with our writers, artists, composers, philosophers, and scientists" and goes on to invite the recipient to Inaugural functions.
List includes writers, poets, painters, composers and choreographers, actors, museum directors, educators, librarians, architects and scientists.
Date based on Kennedy's inauguration, which occurred on January 20th, 1961. List would have been drafted some time between the election in November of 1960 and inauguration day.
