Description: Identification on verso (stamped): "During his student years, Sargent met James Abbott McNeill Whistler, who encouraged him to come to London. In 1886, when Sargent decided to settle there, he moved into quarters recently vacated by Whistler, and maintained this studio until his death in 1925."
