Identification on accompaning label reads: Francis Coates Jones (1857-1932). Jones was a figure painter, who studied in Paris under Lefebre and Boulager for four years. He was a member of many art associations, treasurer of the National Academy of Design, and a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He won the Isidor Medal from the NAD in 1913 and silver medals at the Pan-American, St. Louis, and Panama-Pacific Expositions.
