Description: Identification on verso (handwritten): Cornelia van A. Chapin at work on her Young Elephant (weight about 850 pounds) - carving direct from life into African Tree (aloyous) using gouge and wooden mallet. The Young Elephant was awarded the Second Anna Hyatt Huntington Prize for sculpture at the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors- 1936. To the right of the sculptor may be seen her Bear cub, carved direct from life in volcanic rock and now showing Fine Arts Building, Golden Gate International Exposition, San Francisco, Calif. - 1939
