Description: Identification: (L-R) Charles Sheeler, Edward Steichen and John Marin.
Identification on accompanying note (typed): John Marin (1870-1953). Steichen, Sheeler, and Marin shown here, were long-time friends. Marin was an architect before taking up painting. He lived in Europe from 1905-1910, where he studied the work of Cezanne and the Cubists. Back in the United States, he developed an original technique in water color, a use of the flat paper surface exploding into dynamic scenes of the Maine coast and New York skyscrapers.
