Biographical/Historical Note: Lois K. Gordon was art history student at Lone Mountain College at the time she wrote the Henry Alexander paper. Henry Alexander was a genre painter who worked in San Francisco and in New York City, after 1887. According to obituaries, he committed suicide there on May 15, 1894. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 destroyed most of his records and paintings.
