Thursday, July 30, 1885 Mrs. Lindlsey came up to see my picture this morning also Mrs. Willis and some of the little girls of the hill with their dolls. I put on the hose and watered the flower garden which has been a failure this year. I got up at 5 o'clock this morning and worked in it and discovered that it is a mass of fine roots just below the surface. I shall remove every thing to the vegetable garden next year and do away with this one. Sara and I attended Mrs. Ludlums funeral this afternoon from her house. Dr. Magee and Mr. Irvin officiated. The burial was private. After we returned I drove out with my father, Sara, Alice's children and little Dwight whose mother is in N. Y.
