Saturday, Sept 8, 1883 The day has been cloudy and threatening but the wished for rain does not come. We are suffering a drought. The completion of the Northern Pacific rail road was celebrated today at a point beyond the Mullen tunnel. Downing and I have been busy packing our camp articles and are all ready to start on Monday. My little picture has come which I am to give Lily McEntee for a wedding present. I am sorry I am not to be there but I feel I must get at my work. I am afraid she will not understand why I do not wait for the wedding.
