The Jervis McEntee Diaries - December 2, 1882

Diary Entry:

Saturday, Dec 2, 1882 Took my father and mother, Sara and Alice for a sleigh ride out on the Flatbush road. The snow was melting rapidly and when we got back the sleighing was done. Alice and I drove over to the cemetery this morning as she wanted to see the stone at dear Gertrudes grave. We could not keep back the tears thinking of the dear one who slept below it. I think so tenderly of her now while Alice is here. She brings her nearer to me. Downing and Mary came up by the City of Catskill. I had a carriage to meet them and meant to be there myself but the boat arrived earlier than I was told she would and they passed me in the carriage in the dark on my way down. I found them at supper when I returned and Downing sat up until nearly two oclock and was not fatigued by his journey. He came up stairs with a little assistance to my room which I have put at his disposal, I sleeping on my lounge.
