The Jervis McEntee Diaries - November 7, 1882
Diary Entry:
Tuesday, Nov 7, 1882 Election day. For the first time since the formation of the Republican party I deviated from my regular custom of voting the whole ticket. Today I did not vote for Folger for Governor, nor for B. Platt Carpenter for Lieut Governor but voted the Prohibition candidates. In every other respect I voted the Republican ticket and in favor of the Constitutional amendment making the canals free. Tonight there is a rumor that the Republicans are disastrously defeated, as I anticipated. I should not be surprised if the Democratic Governor (Cleveland) were elected by 100000 majority. I think the Bosses will begin to believe the people are not to be trifled with. Painted all day in my studio on an Autumn picture 20 x 30 and made satisfactory progress. I am aiming at brilliancy of color.
