Sunday, Dec 5, 1880 A rainy dark day. I have felt desperately and most lonely and discouraged. Came to my room and wrote to Lucy. I also wrote a letter to Booth but in so discouraged a tone that I think I will destroy it. Mr. Alfred Booth came and spent an hour with me after dinner and looked at my pictures. He sails for England on Saturday. Calvert and I went to the Century this evening. I met Prof. Marsh. He has been talking of wanting one of my pictures but tonight when I invited him to my room he talks about being poor etc. He is a millionaire I understand. How I hate to appear as wanting to influence any one to buy my pictures.
