The Jervis McEntee Diaries - January 1, 1880
Diary Entry:
Thursday, Jan 1, 1880 Bright winter day. Sara, Gussie and Gertrude Tomkins received calls of which [?] 18 or 20. I spent a part of the afternoon in my room writing a long letter to [?]. Have been greatly depressed today. Partly I think because I am going back tomorrow. Still I went down stairs to see most of the callers. We all sat in the parlor after our supper and talked of Gertrude and immortality. I love to speak of her and my comprehension and my admiration of her beautiful character increases from day to day.
