Rained hard all day and thunder showers in the evening. I painted a little on my figure in my landscape but it was too dark to work. Weir came in about noon. Attended the monthly meeting of the Century. Coleman & Vedder for whom I got cards to the club for a month were both there and met many friends. A silhouette of Bryant by Hartley was presented to the club by Roswell Smith in a beautiful address by George W. Curtis. I spoke with Curtis but Dr. Osgood came along and in his accustomed manner drowned me out. I had a very pleasant evening and staid until one oclock. Mrs. Youmans gave a kettle dinner and invited me but it was so rainy I did not go.
