The Jervis McEntee Diaries - September 30, 1879

Diary Entry:

Church & John fired by my account of the beauty of Little Togue started for there. We all went over in the big birch and Church in the little one. John and Charlie were with Church, Charlie to return. While George and the ladies and I went up Sandy Stream about a mile where we landed and lunched and I wrote these notes. Very windy when we came to Sandy Stream. Went up about a mile fishing by the way but unsuccessfully and went ashore and built a fire under a birch tree and had our lunch. All were charmed with the lovely stream and the seclusion of the place. Made a sketch of the landing place. When we returned at 4 for Charlie the wind had gone down and we came back to the camp at sunset. At dinner we talked of Dear Gertrude. Thought I could speak of her but we all cried over our tender memories of all her sweetness and loveliness.
