The Jervis McEntee Diaries - July 29, 1879

Diary Entry:

On Monday 27th my father, mother, Mary and I started for Lake Minnewaska passing through High Falls where we stopped a few minutes. We ate our lunch on the road through the clove and reached the house about 4. Mr. Smillie recognised me and was very polite. His house was full and he told me he had had to refuse applications. I took Mary a row on the lake just where I took dear Gertrude almost a year ago. I thought of her constantly. She was so closely associated with our excursion for she so thoroughly enjoyed our trip last year and was so cheerful and happy all the time. We staid over night and Tuesday (28th) morning drove over to Mohonk by the new road 7 miles. Staid there at dinner and drove home at 4. Met Mr. Huntington and his wife there and Mrs. Davis. Arrived home found Mrs. Swan here. Nannie & Miss Delaprine also who had taken tea with Sara. Sara had had a letter from Lucy. They had arrived safely at Fort Halleck. I had a letter from Weir and one from Eastman Johnson from E. Hampton. Weirs are to leave on Thursday. No answer to my other letter as I had hoped.
