The Jervis McEntee Diaries - July 26, 1879

Diary Entry:

Telegraphed Church this morning I would not come Monday and would write. Sent out my lists of pictures to St. Louis, Louisville, Chicago and Cincinnati. The weather has been threatening all day. This afternoon a man was to have come to cut some trees on my place but it rained and he did not come. I trimmed some of the shrubs on the lawn when it began to rain so hard I was obliged to stop. I went all through my dear little empty house and all our early married life begun there came back to me in sweet and tender memories and I was glad the place had come back to my hands again and felt that I could never bear to have it occupied by strangers. It rained very hard in the afternoon and evening. Mary, Bowyer and Downing came by the Powell.
