Calvert, Mary, Bowyer, Marian, Irving and I all came down together. Mary, Marian & Julia lunched with me and went home again this evening. It is a great pleasure and comfort for me to be with them now when I feel so lonely. I painted all day on my picture which is approaching completion, but I regret to say I work with no enthusiasm. My mind is too troubled. If I could sell even a small picture I know I would feel better. Went to the first meeting of the new Council. A pretty full attendance. Voted to open the school Oct. 18. The loan Collection is a very great success. $600 were taken on Saturday. It was proposed that the Academy apply for the English Centennial Collection to exhibit in the Academy at the close of the Centennial. I drew up a resolution which was passed and Mr. Huntington who is going on on Thursday is to get all the information he can on the subject. Wrote to Gertrude and to Eastman Johnson.
