We had a heavy rain storm on Sunday and the papers say considerable damage was done throughout the Country. Yesterday we put the carpet in the parlor and I have had my Franklin fixed and cleaned and we are going to put it up there. I try to paint but find it impossible and only look forward now to the time when I shall go to my studio in New York and there among all my sketches get myself into a mood to work. Received a letter from Mr. Hoe last evening in which he says he will hardly be able to spend a day with me this fall. The weather is still unsettled and squally. Storms continually pass along the mountains with fine cloud effects.
