It rained last night for the first time since the shower we had after we returned from our camping the last part of July. The country was dried up. The grass all burned up, the leaves on the elms in front of our house turned yellow and falling rapidly and the air dense with smoke from fires in the mountains, a most depressing feeling to me. Today there is a brisk North West wind. The mountains are seen for the first time in weeks and the air is so clear that rocks & trees can be distinguished on them. I have been reading over my Journal for a year back as my boils are still so sore I can do nothing, and I get some comfort from going back to see how despondent and anxious I have been and after all how little need there is for fretting. I try hard to be wiser and perhaps I learn a little, but it is so difficult to know exactly how to live and dispose or ones time.
