The Jervis McEntee Diaries - March 19, 1876

Diary Entry:

Cold as winter. Frost on the panes. Went to hear Mr. Frothingham on Creed & Conduct. He showed [?] conclusively how far peoples lives were removed from our creeds, for instance how impossible to regulate our daily life "by taking no thought for the morrow". [?] the evening went to Bayard Taylors. Mr & Mrs Stedman, Mr & Mrs Brown, Mr & Mrs Carter, Mr Burlingame, Miss Thackett, Miss Elliott, Mr & Mrs Gray, Mr & Mrs Bierstadt and an unknown straddling Englishman who parted his hair in the middle although he had only four or five hairs to part, and kept his hands in his pockets, made up the party. Eastman Johnson and his wife were also there.
