Saturday Dec 25, 1873- Downing and I went out to Aunt Katrines pond this morning taking Grant Van Deusen and little Robbie Livingston along. We went in a wagon Downing taking his gun and the boys their skates. It was a fine, grey winter day and pretty cold. We found the pond covered with snow and only a small place to skate upon. Some men were fishing through the ice and two hunters were there who had started a fox. We heard their dogs while we were on the pond. We came home by Steep Rocks after a pleasant ride, to dinner. I think we never had so small a gathering at our table on Christmas before only my father and mother, Downing, Maurice and Gertrude and I. Girard was in Kingston. In the evening all of Uncle Charles people, Cornelia, John & Nannie and Annie and Fred came over to tea and spent the evening very pleasantly playing cards etc.
