The Jervis McEntee Diaries - November 27, 1873

Diary Entry:

Thursday, Nov 27, 1873- Yesteday I finished my little winter picture and also laid in a composition which pleases me, for a late autumn picture 12x20 which I am eager to paint for I think I shall be able to make a nice picture of it. This morning it looked very much like snow when we awoke. It was very cold last night. The river is closed from Kaatskill to Albany and is full of ice here. Today was Thanksgiving day and the whole family had been invited out to Fred Nortons to dinner. Pa was not quite strong enough to go and my mother could not go so Gertrude, Julia Vaux and I started with the two horses at 10 and reached there at 12 1/2. The sleighing was as fine as I ever saw it. It snowed a little but towards night cleared off and the moon came out to light us home. We had a very pleasant day and all thoroughly enjoyed it.
