Monday, Nov 24, 1873- Several inches of snow fell last night but it has rained all day and a thick fog has prevailed. I went to work on a winter picture which I painted last winter when I returned to New York after the Holidays, and repainted it. I have made it much better and I painted on it with great pleasure. I hope still to improve it. The size is 12x20. Received a letter from Lucy today telling me she had received the little picture I painted for her to give to the Doctor and enclosing the price of the frame. She was delighted with the picture as was the Doctor. Gertrude received a letter from Mrs. Weir and one from Mrs. Church. Wrote to Goupil for some Flake White and a short note to Downing who wants to come up and bring Owen Olmstead for Thanksgiving but my father not being at all well prefers that he should come alone. I read a biographical sketch of Dr. Francis Lieber in the "Scribner" last evening. He was an admirable man. I used to see him at the Century Club but I never knew anything about him. He was a handsome attractive looking old gentleman and I should like to know more of him.
