    An interview of John Gernand conducted by Julia Haifley for the Archives of American Art. Gernand discusses growing up in Washington, D.C., working at the Phillips Collection for 40 years and recollections of Duncan Phillips, and the Washington art scene.

    These interviews are part of the Archives of American Art Oral History Program, started in 1958 to document the history of the visual arts in the United States, primarily through interviews with artists, historians, dealers, critics and others.
