Records of the National Arts Club consist of minutes and reports of the Board of Governors and its standing and special committees, 1898-1957; administrative correspondence of officers and committee chairmen, 1898-1960; financial records, 1917-1952; membership records, ca. 1900 and 1931-1959; records of Arts Realty, 1909-1956; miscellaneous items; photographs; printed matter, 1898-1960; and scrapbooks, 1898-1940.
Minutes and reports of the Board of Governors include records of Organizing Secretary Charles De Kay and the Organizing Committee; also charter, constitution, and house rules. Correspondence of officers and committee chairmen relates to administrative matters and includes: files on mortgage bonds, war tax refunds, the studio building, insurance, Artists War Emergency Fund, Men's Open Table, and exhibitions. Exhibition correspondence mainly concerns decorative arts, arts and crafts, and books of the year shows.
Financial records consist of ledgers, cash books, receipts, and monthly treasurer's reports. Membership rosters record categories and dates of membership. Arts Realty records include lists of stockholders, correspondence and minutes of this subsidiary organization responsible for financing and purchasing the clubhouse and studio building. Miscellaneous items include legal documents, speeches, histories of the Club, and information about clubhouses. Photographs of people include: officers, governors, life members, artists, speakers, distinguished guests, and various group shots. Other photographs are of exhibition installations, 1899-1957 and undated; works of art; clubhouse interior and exterior; special events; and miscellaneous.
Printed matter produced by the National Arts Club includes BULLETIN, YEARBOOK, exhibition catalogs, brochures, and programs; also, printed matter from other sources about National Arts Club, members, Gramercy Park, and other arts organizations. Scrapbooks (17 vols.) contain National Arts Club printed matter, clippings about Club activities, exhibitions, members, and general art news.
