Artists' files; files on group exhibitions and on fine art publishers, document the activities of Washington, D.C.'s Nancy Drysdale Gallery.
Artists' files, 1971-1996, comprise the bulk of the collection (7 ft). They contain résumés, gallery correspondence, notes, clippings, exhibition announcements and catalogs, and photographs of art work and installations concerning 67 artists, among them Jennifer Bartlett, Scott Burton, William Christenberry, Jerry Clapsaddle, Buckminster Fuller, Sam Gilliam, Jacob Kainen, Alex Katz, Sol Lewitt, Robert Mangold, Martin Puryear, Sean Scully, Alan Sonfist, Michael Tracy, Anne Truitt, William Wegman, and Robert Zakanitch. The Burton file contains a schematic drawing and the Kainen file a transcript of an interview with Kainen.
Group exhibition files, 1978-1994 (0.5 ft.), contain lists, photographs, announcements, catalogs, and other printed material concerning 12 exhibitions mounted at the Gallery. Fine art publishers' files, 1972-1995 (1.5 ft.), contain letters, price lists, photographs, and printed material concerning the printing of editions of original art work by 46 fine art publishing companies including Brook Alexander Editions, Crown Point Press, and Tyler Graphics, Ltd.
