    Gyongy Laky papers, 1912-2006

    Biographical information, correspondence, writings, photographs, printed material, works of art, and a video regarding Laky's career as a textile artist and educator in California. Correspondence is with family, friends, colleagues, art organizations, California politicians, and charitable organizations Laky was involved in. Correspondents include Jerome Carlin, Mija Riedel, Mariana Covington, Sally Lilienthal and Jack Lenor Larsen, Barbara Boxer, Patsy Keene and Jackie Speier, Browngrotta Fine Arts, SOFA Chicago, the Mobilia Gallery, Friends of Fiber Art International, the Penland School of Craft, the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design, the Ploughshares Fund, and the Stocker Foundation.

    Writings by Laky include a diary from her year in India (1971-1972); photographs are of Laky, her family, friends, and works of art. Printed material includes information on charity organizations that Laky was involved in, as well as exhibition announcements, exhibition catalogs, past syllabi, press clippings, and a catalog from the Fiberworks Symposium in 1978 regarding Laky's personal merit review at the University of California at Davis, as well as material regarding the Committee for Affirmative Action at UC Davis. Art work includes drawings and sketches by Laky. Also included is a VHS tape entitled "Contemporary Fiber Artists: Maker Profile Gyongy Laky" [2003, 54 min.]. The papers of Laky's mother, portrait painter and landscape artist, Zyta Laky are included within these papers (1.0 linear ft).

    Donated 2004- 2007 by Gyongy Laky as part of the Nanette L. Laitman Documentation Project for Craft and Decorative Arts in America. Additions are expected.
