Correspondence, writings and photographic scrapbooks relating to Ireland's research on Inness. REELS 992-996: Extensive photograph file of Inness paintings; correspondence; notes on and descriptions of paintings; sales records of Inness's works; ownership records of Inness paintings; information about questionable attributions; exhibition catalogs and miscellany. REELS 2824-2825: Twelve scrapbooks compiled by Ireland containing ca. 3,000 photographs of paintings, 1841-1894, by Inness. UNMICROFILMED: Correspondence, 1917-1970, with museums, art dealers, and private collectors about Inness paintings and works attributed to him; photographs of paintings; and copies of 2 Inness letters, one to a Mr. Berch ?, Sept. 1879, and one to Edward D. Adams, Jan. 11, 1888, thanking him for payment for his painting "Sunset," purchased for Adams by Thomas Clarke. A b&w photograph of the painting is also included. In addition, there are photographs and negatives of American and European paintings owned and/or sold by Ireland or the John Levy Galleries, 1940-1960.
Location of Originals: Reels 2824-2825: Originals in Archer M. Huntington Art Gallery, University of Texas at Austin. Reels 992-996: Originals returned to Chapellier Galleries, New York City, after microfilming.
Material on reels 992-996 was lent by Chapellier Galleries, New York City, 1975, who acquired it from Ireland's estate. Scrapbooks on reels 2824-2825 were lent by Archer Huntington Art Gallery of the University of Texas at Austin in 1983. Two unmicrofilmed letters and photograph re "Sunset" were donated 1963-1964 by Ireland; the remainder of the unmicrofilmed papers were donated by Irene Chapellier Little, 1993, from the estate of Mrs. Leroy Ireland.
