    Frank and Elizabeth Boott Duveneck papers, 1851-1972

    Letters, a diary, notes and writings, art works, scrapbooks, printed material, and photographs document the artistic careers of Frank Duveneck and his wife Elizabeth Boott.

    REEL 792: Eighty-four pencil sketches by Duveneck consist of heads and caricatures of his students, the "Duveneck Boys". Four black and white photographs show works by Duveneck.

    REEL 927: Photographs (1851-1942) show Duveneck, his family and friends, his wife with her father, and Duveneck, Frank Dengler, and Henry Farny with Duveneck's painting "Joan of Arc" (1875). A photograph of John Twachtman is autographed. Photographs of art classes include one of Wilhelm von Diez's classes in Munich (1871). A photograph of the Jury of the Panama-Pacific Exposition, ca. 1915, includes Twachtman, Farney, Dengler, Rudolph Tschadi, and others. Among the photographers are Gabriel Moulin, Fratelli Alinari, Julius Brigelius, Montabone, Fratelli Vianelli, and Alvino & Co.

    REELS 1150-1151: Letters (1856-1971) written by Frank and Elizabeth Boott Duveneck to family and friends, and by C. Howard Walker, Daniel Chester French, Bessie Wessel and others to Duveneck's son Francis and daughter-in-law Josephine; a diary (1875) kept by Elizabeth Boott Duveneck in Vermont; notes and writings (1880-1897) including "The Legend of Monteripdo" by Elizabeth Boott, "The Duveneck Story" by Elizabeth Kellogg, excerpts from early letters including a list of the "Munich boys" (1879), academy notes on "Duveneck School, Florence," (1880), a 5-page lecture at the Society of Western Artists (1897), and Josephine Duveneck's notes for a biography of Frank Duveneck.

    REELS 1150-1151: Art works consist of 12 sketches by Elizabeth and 7 sketchbooks by Frank and Elizabeth Duveneck. One scrapbook contains clippings of magazine illustrations (1871). Another, assembled by Elizabeth Boott, contains clippings about her work (1879). A third scrapbook of printed material was assembled by Josephine Duveneck (1915). Other materials consist of clippings (1915-1972), exhibition catalogs (1936-1967), a program (1915), and 2 diplomas (1872, 1887).

    Donated and lent by Mr. and Mrs. Francis B. Duveneck, the son and daughter-in-law of Frank and Elizabeth Duveneck.
