Biographical material; correspondence; notebooks and writings; monograph; bills and receipts of art purchases; sales records; legal and administrative records; photographs; videotape and audio cassettes relating to John Caldwell's career as a curator and writer. Of note are files containing documents on the establishment of a fund for contemporary art at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA), and "This Is About Who We Are," an anthology of posthumously collected writings, published by SFMoMA (1996). Also found is a videotape of the Carnegie International.

Donated 2002 by the John Caldwell estate, via Joan Witek, executrix of the estate of John Caldwell.
