Johnson Sweeney, Henry Epstein, Harry Sternberg, Langston Hughes, Hale Woodruff, Robert Riggs, and other friends and colleagues, relating to NAACP work and personal and professional affairs. Also included are sketchbooks, biographical material, photographs, exhibition catalogs, cartoons and clippings.
REELS 4222-23: Biographical material; resumes; letters from Hale Woodruff, Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Byron Browne, Eudora Welty, and others; photographs of Alston, his friends, and his art work; manuscripts of short stories, and other writings; records of commissions for art work, and other business records; exhibition catalogs and announcements, press releases, clippings, and printed materials concerning the City College of New York; and miscellany. [Some of the photographs were previously lent and microfilmed on reel N70-23.]
Material on reel N70-23 was lent for microfilming 1970 by Charles Alston. Material on reels 4222-23 donated by Aida Winters, and Rousmaniere Alston Wilson, Alston's sisters, 1982-1984.
