REELS 4578-4587: Sketchbooks and journals (84 v.) chronicle Almaraz's career, from radical manifestos, sketches, drawings, notes, and changes in his political, emotional and aesthetic needs. Included are 45 v. of pen and ink drawings; 16 v. of notes; 6 v. of watercolors; 1 v. of pastels; 8 v. of collage; and 8 v. of notes with drawings. [The numbering system was devised by Elsa Flores Almaraz.]
UNMICROFILMED: Biographical and personal documents; files of business correspondence and invoices, 1974-1996, arranged alphabetically by correspondent, gallery, or topic; personal correspondence; journals, writings and notes; printed materials, including exhibition catalogs and announcements, articles, clippings, posters, and magazines; financial and business records; photographs, mainly of works of art but also of Almaraz, Flores, friends, and family; and art work, including drawings and cut outs.
Location of Originals: Vol.1-78: Originals returned to the lender, Elsa Flores Almaraz, after microfilming.
Sketchbooks and notebooks, volumes numbered 1-78, were lent for microfilming by Elsa Flores Almaraz, 1991. Volumes numbered 79-84 (reel 4587, fr. 93-456) were donated, some in 1986 by Carlos, and the remainder in 1991 by Elsa. In 1997, ca. 9.3 ft. of papers of both were donated by Elsa.
