Biographical/Historical Note: Carl N. Schmalz, Jr. (1926-2013) was a watercolorist and professor in Brunswick, Maine and Amherst, Massachusetts. Schmalz taught at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine,1952-1962 and Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts, 1962-1994.
