Collection Summary: The Bernard Harper (B.H.) Friedman papers consist of biographical material, writings, scrapbooks, subject and alphabetical files, photographs, printed material, and audio and video recordings and mainly document Friedman's career as a writer.

Biographical material includes birth certificates for B.H. and his wife Abby Noselson Friedman, marriage and death certificates, obituaries, student records, and military documentation for Friedman's service in the United States Navy, and an autobiographical profile, "Making of a Writer."

A majority of the collection consists of writings that include both handwritten and typed, bound journals, manuscripts for published and unpublished novels, short stories, plays, collections of poems, and essays written by Friedman. Subject and general alphabetical files are mainly relating to Friedman's research for writings.

Printed material includes offprints of published writings, clippings, posters, and broadsides concerning writings or events featuring Friedman. Also included are five scrapbooks containing programs, invitations, notes, brochures, clippings and other printed material regarding publications, plays, and lectures by Friedman. Audio visual material includes interviews with Friedman. A small portion of the collection contains photographs of Friedman with family, friends and events.

Biographical/Historical Note: B. H. (Bernard Harper) Friedman (1926-2011) was a writer, art critic and collector in New York, N.Y.

Donated 2012 by Daisy Friedman, Friedman's daughter.
